Our website is great for fixing one common problem: a wet speaker that sounds funny. The special sound on our site can push out the water and make your speaker clear again. It’s like a quick, easy band-aid for your phone.

But sometimes, a phone that gets wet has bigger problems than just a quiet speaker. Think about it like this: if you get a small scrape on your knee, a band-aid is perfect. But if you think your leg might be broken, you need to go to a real doctor to get it checked out. A band-aid can’t fix a broken bone.

Our tool is the band-aid for your speaker. It’s great for that one job. But if water has broken other parts inside your phone, you need a “phone doctor”—a professional repair person at a phone store.

How can you tell if the problem is serious? Here are the big warning signs to look for. If you see any of these, it’s time to turn your phone off and let an expert help.

Sign #1: The Screen Looks Weird or Broken

The screen is the main way you use your phone. After your phone dries, look at the screen very carefully.

  • Do you see strange lines or colors? Sometimes you might see bright green or purple lines that weren’t there before.
  • Is it flickering? A screen that flashes or flickers like a weak light bulb is a bad sign.
  • Are there dark spots? Look for black or dark gray spots under the glass, almost like an ink stain. This means water got behind the screen and damaged it.
  • Does the touch screen not work right? Try swiping through your apps. If the screen doesn’t respond when you touch it, or if it acts crazy and opens things on its own, water has likely damaged the sensitive parts underneath.

If you see any of these screen problems, our sound tool can’t fix it. The screen itself needs to be checked by a professional.

Sign #2: The Phone Has Charging Problems or Gets Very Hot

This is the most serious warning sign because it involves the battery, which can be dangerous if it’s damaged.

  • It won’t charge at all. You plug it in, and nothing happens. The battery symbol doesn’t show up. This could mean the charging port is broken or the battery itself is dead.
  • It gets VERY hot. If you plug your phone in and the phone (especially near the charging port) starts to feel really hot, unplug it immediately. This is a sign of a “short circuit,” where the electricity is not flowing correctly. This can permanently damage your phone and is a safety risk.

Never keep a water-damaged phone plugged in if it feels too hot. Let a repair shop look at it to make sure it’s safe to use again.

Sign #3: The Phone Won’t Turn On Properly

Does your phone keep restarting but never fully gets to your home screen? This is often called a “boot loop.”

You might see the Apple logo or the Android logo appear, then the screen goes black, and then the logo appears again. It does this over and over.

This usually means that water has damaged the most important part of the phone: the logic board, which is like the phone’s brain. When the brain is damaged, the phone doesn’t know how to “wake up” all the way. A regular person can’t fix this; it requires special tools and an expert to repair the tiny parts on the board.

Sign #4: Other Parts Aren’t Working

Even if the screen looks fine and it charges okay, you should do a quick test of your phone’s other features.

  • Check the Cameras. Open your camera app. Can you take a picture with the back camera? Now, switch to the front “selfie” camera. Does that one work too? Sometimes water gets into the camera lens and makes pictures blurry or breaks the camera completely.
  • Test the Microphone. The easiest way to do this is to call a friend. Ask them if they can hear you clearly. If they say your voice is very quiet or they can’t hear you at all, it means water damaged the microphone at the bottom of your phone.
  • Press the Buttons. Do the volume buttons on the side still click and work correctly? What about the power button? If they feel sticky or don’t do anything when you press them, they might be damaged.

The Main Takeaway

Use our tool if the only problem you have is a quiet or crackling speaker. But if your phone has any of the other problems on this list—a weird screen, charging issues, it won’t turn on, or the camera/microphone is broken—the best and safest thing to do is turn it off and take it to a professional.
